Tom Paxton sings "Comedians and Angels", a song about the Lion's Head.
In the wake of Paul Schiffman's death, a lot of us Lion's Head veterans gathered to remember him at the Kettle of Fish, which now occupies the Lion's Head space. This inspired Dermot McEvoy to start an on-line discussion, via e-mail, about our recollections of the Head, which he means to use as the basis for a history of the place. One contributor to the discussion has been singer and songwriter Tom Paxton, who posted a link to the YouTube clip above, in which he sings "Comedians and Angels," a song he wrote about his old friends at the Head. As Tom admitted in the e-mail that included the link, he was mistaken in saying the Head never had a jukebox. It was installed sometime around the end of the 1970s, much to the consternation of many of the regulars, and no doubt of Paul, who objected to the mounting of TVs over the bar.
To round things off, here's Tom with another Head regular, Liam Clancy, who died a year and a half ago, doing one of my favorite of Tom's songs, "The Last Thing On My Mind."
