George Jones, as remembered by Lacy J. Dalton

Lacy J. Dalton's album Hard Times was a comfort to me back in the spring of 1980, when I was going through the emotional backwash of a nasty break-up. I knew her song "Old Soldier" had to be about George Jones, who died today at 81. Back then he was in his 50s, but old enough for "the warm amber lights [to do] a lot for his age."  The reference to "battles" sealed it. To top it off, here's a duet between the two of them on "That's Good; That's Bad":
